Standard mercury lamps are great, but they have a blind spot. They hit those 254nm and 365nm peaks and then just… stop. That’s where gallium iodide (GaI) lamps step in. They push the light further, right into that 300nm to 400nm range. Why does that matter? Because it’s the difference between an ink that just sits on top and one that actually sinks in.
Getting rid of that “tacky” feeling
If you’ve ever dealt with “skinning,” you know the frustration. The surface looks dry, but the bottom is still wet. You touch it, and it’s a mess. We built these lamps to fix that. By hitting those longer waves, the light penetrates deeper into thick coatings or heavy pigments. The ink cures from the bottom up. A little bit of ink splatter can create a hot spot, and that’s a quick way to kill a lamp.
