If that number drifts, the bulb is basically a fancy flashlight. It has to be exact, every single time, across thousands of units. The nitty-gritty of the build Most cheap bulbs fail because they cut corners on the electrodes. If the materials are impure, you’ll see this “blackening” at the ends of the tube. It looks ugly, but it’s worse than that—it kills your UV intensity long before the bulb is actually supposed to die. We use high-purity synthetic quartz for the envelope because standard glass just blocks UVC rays. It’s a simple choice, but it’s the only one that works. Making sure they actually fit If you’re wiring up a huge sterilization system, the last thing you want is a headache during installation. We obsess over the small stuff, like pin alignment and wattage. I’ve seen 30W bulbs that actually pull 35W—that’s a great way to fry your ballast. We keep that variance within ±5% so you don’t have to worry about your hardware melting down. And the fit matters. Whether you’re using G13 bi-pins or something more specialized, it needs to be snug. A loose connection leads to arcing, and arcing ruins your socket. Simple as that. A quick heads-up on heat High-output lamps get hot. Really hot. While the UVC does the heavy lifting of killing germs, the infrared byproduct can warp cheap plastic housings if you aren’t careful. You’ve got to make sure your airflow or cooling fans can handle the heat of a full array. If the bulb runs too hot, the mercury vapor pressure shifts and your output drops. If you want them to stay lethal, keep them cool.
